In Memoriam

Maggie

In Loving Memory of Maggie

It is hard to know where to begin.

On Friday, August 15, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., surrounded by those who loved her most, we said goodbye to Maggie—known affectionately as Maggie Moo, Magpie, and countless other nicknames she earned throughout her remarkable life.

Maggie was far more than a horse. She was a partner, a teacher, a friend, and a constant source of love and loyalty. Together, she and her owner shared a lifetime of equine adventures that went far beyond what most could ever imagine. Through every challenge and every triumph, Maggie was there with her steady heart, unwavering spirit, and endless willingness to give of herself.

In a lifetime spent around horses, few souls have ever matched the kindness, devotion, and selflessness that Maggie embodied. She had a way of touching the lives of everyone she met, leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever.

While our hearts are heavy with her loss, we find comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace. Free from pain, free from the burdens of age, and running strong once again. We can only imagine the reunion taking place beyond the Rainbow Bridge. And if Maggie has found her former pasture mates waiting for her there, we suspect heaven is about to become a much livelier place.

Maggie’s hoofprints are forever etched into our hearts, and her legacy will continue through the stories, lessons, and love she leaves behind.

Goodbye, Maggie.

We hope that you and Bud are waiting for us when our ride is done.

Until we meet again.

Bud

In Loving Memory of Bohdrum “Bud”

Some horses come into our lives for a season. Others leave hoofprints on our hearts that remain forever.

Bohdrum, affectionately known as “Bud,” was more than a horse. He was a partner, a teammate, a trusted friend, and an irreplaceable member of the Combatant’s Keep family. To many, he was recognized as a powerful and dependable jousting horse. To those who knew him best, he was so much more.

Bud shared countless adventures with his rider and touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether charging down the lyst with unwavering confidence or quietly enjoying the company of those he loved, Bud possessed a spirit that was both noble and kind. He carried himself with strength, grace, and a heart that seemed larger than life.

The bond between horse and rider is difficult to describe to those who have never experienced it. It is built through years of trust, partnership, and shared experiences. Bud was not simply ridden—he was a teammate in every sense of the word. Together they faced challenges, celebrated victories, and created memories that will never fade.

Those who watched Bud perform saw a magnificent athlete. Those who knew him personally saw a gentle soul whose loyalty and presence made every day better. He had a way of making difficult moments easier and good moments unforgettable.

While words can never fully express the loss felt by those he leaves behind, they can honor the incredible life he lived. Bud’s legacy lives on in every story told, every lesson learned, and every rider inspired by his example. His impact on Combatant’s Keep and on the people who loved him cannot be measured.

When we think of Bud, we do not remember endings. We remember the thunder of hooves, the excitement of the crowd, and the feeling of soaring forward together as one. We remember a horse who gave his all, asked for little in return, and left the world better than he found it.

Run free, Bud.

May the pastures be endless, the footing always sure, and the company waiting for you beyond the horizon. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
